Review

AChat is a tool that, as its name suggests, is primarily aimed at instant messaging on local area networks. However, it includes many additional tools that make it a comprehensive communication tool.
When chatting, you will have the option of using multiple chat channels at once, both public and private, and to monitor the activities. You can also create your own chat channels and topics and invite multiple users, and if you want to connect with a user who is offline at the moment you can send quick messages or private messages to him.
Furthermore, it is a very handy tool for sending files to a particular recipient or multiple recipients at once. In turn, it allows sharing your directories (fully or partially) with users of the network and access to shared directories of another person.
This is a free open source application that includes numerous configuration options to make usage of the window more convenient and flexible (warnings, color, text, images, sounds, etc.). In turn it’s interesting that it counts on monitoring features and tracing the history of communications with other users.
It runs on Windows 98/98SE/Me/2000/XP.
Advantages
  • It's a free, open source application.
  • It supports Unicode.
  • It uses a convenient interface.
  • It allows files and directories sharing over the network.
Disadvantages
  • It doesn't support videoconferencing or voice communications.
  • It's only available for windows.
  • It's available in English only.
  • It doesn't offer offline help information.
